Sharp JX-100 is a plugin module for Adobe Photoshop that acquires images from the Sharp JX-100 miniature flatbed scanner.
The JX-100 can be installed in either the modem or printer port. This option is set in the about box for the plugin. The about box can be found by pressing the About Plugins… button in Photoshop’s about box. Because of a bug in the Apple System software 6.0.x, this plugin will freeze up without an error message if the plugin is set to communicate through the modem port and there is a Wacom tablet attached and turned on.
This plugin will operate on any Macintosh that runs Photoshop. The preview image will be grayscale for machines with 32-bit QuickDraw, and 1-bit for machines that do not, like the Classic, SE, Plus, and Portable.
This plugin, like all Photoshop plugins, is installed by placing it in the same folder as Photoshop’s preferences file. When Photoshop starts, the plugin will be loaded, and appears in the Acquire submenu of the File menu.
When this plugin is selected, you will be presented with a dialog box where you specify a number of options.
The Mode buttons allow you to select what type of image is returned (color, grayscale, or bitmap).
The resolution buttons allow you to select the scanning resolution (50 - 200 dpi).
The gamma control specifies a gamma lookup table for the image (0.2 - 5.0).
The threshold parameter controls what gray level is used as the threshold for bitmap scanning (0-255). Levels above this value will be white, and below this value will be black.
The Scan gray/bitmap using: controls which lamp color to use for grayscale and bitmap scans (red, green, or blue).
The Image positive/negative controls specify whether the image should be treated as a positive or negative.
You may specify a cropping rectangle for the image by clicking and dragging in the preview window. The rectangle can be adjusted by dragging a handle, or clicking and dragging somewhere else. To remove the cropping rectangle and restore the scan to the full window, single click in the preview window.
The file size of the selected area is displayed below the preview window. This size reflects the currently selected mode, resolution, and cropping rectangle.
The ‘P’ and down arrow keys double as the Preview button, the escape key doubles as the Cancel button, and the enter and return keys double as the Scan button.
Command-period terminates a scan or preview scan.
When you click OK, the image will appear in a new, untitled window.
